News Death Notice

TATE, John Matthew December 11, 2010, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather is now at rest in his heavenly home. The son of Herbert Morris Tate and Eleanor (Bickett) Tate. Born in the farm home on August 15, 1918, a farmer all his life except for four years and four months spent in the 3rd infantry during WWII. He loved the land and loved raising livestock. John was an active church member throughout his life; a member of the South Charleston United Methodist Church, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendant and other positions for many years. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau Council. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Swigart) Tate of 67 years; daughters and son-in-law, Linda and Don Swensen and Becky Boysel; son-in-law, Rosen Thomas; grandchildren, Andrea and Mark Toops, Amy and Jim Holland, Jim and Jaime Boysel, Craig and Lizette Swensen, Kirk and Heather Swensen, Emily and Robert Hawke, Billy and Kara Thomas and Caleb Thomas; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters-in- law, Sarah Tate and Margaret Swigart; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. John is preceded in death by his father and mother; daughter, Shirley Thomas; sisters, Helen Hartman and Caroline Tate; brother, Harold Tate; grandson, Eric Matthew Swensen; and son-in-law, Woody Boysel. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 17, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. at the South Charleston United Methodist Church, 15 E. Jamestown St. with a celebration of John's life on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 11 a.m. Pastor Doug Thompson officiating. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Contributions may be made in John's memory to the South Charleston United Methodist Church, P.O Box G, South Charleston, Ohio 45368. Arrangements in care of INGLING WILLIAMS & LEWIS FUNERAL HOME. I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Tate. He was such a wonderful example of a Christian man. I know you will miss him so much, but how good to know that he and Shirley are smiling down on all of you.
