Richard Windom Obituary
News Death Notice
WINDOM Jr., Richard "Sonny" of Henderson, Nevada, formally of Springfield, departed this life on Saturday, May 29, 2010. He was born September 2, 1940 in West Virginia to Richard and Margaret (Crowe) Windom Sr. Richard served in the United States Navy and was employed by the Springfield Police Department November 22, 1965 thru February 28, 1989, he retired as a Detective. He was an avid cook, fisherman and hunter. Richard grew up in the Church of God M.P.G.of T. State Street and Rosedale; he played the drums for the choir. In the race car circle, he was known as the "cowboy". He leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife Mary Ann Windom; children, Victoria (Willie) Arnold, Sharon Windom, Ethel Samuels, Richard (Avis) Windom, and Teresa (Ronald) Crenshaw, Charlotte Windom; Step Children, Craig Beach of Tennessee, Leslie Beach, Abasi (Shanfa) Ojinjidekan, Kimberly (Darryl) Burgan, Tye Caldwell of, and Brian Caldwell; 29 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; one sister, Betty (Windom) Burton; one brother, Michael Jennings. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary Sims and Beatrice Hayes and one grandson, Titus J. Arnold. Memorial Service in Richard's honor will be held Saturday, June 12, at the Church of God M.P.G. of T. 313 W. High St. Family will be present at 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00a.m. Home Going services by Goings Memorial Chapel.

To the Windom family, I don't have a childhood memory that does not include your family. The times we use to have on Pleasant St. will never be forgotten. My prayers go out to the family during this difficult time.

My condolences to your family. I have many memories of Sonny as a great policeman when I was a firefighter/paramedic at Station 8, West Pleasant St. during the 1970's.

To the Windom family & Friends.... My deepest condolences go out to you in this hour of sorry. Sonny & I worked together on many occasions while I was a member of the Springfield Police Department. I worked with Sonny at SPD from 1976 until he retired. I can't think of a better cop and a nicer gentleman than Sonny. While losing track of him after he retired, I thought of him often and was sorry to hear of his passing. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.
