Clelio M. Improta, Jr. "Clo", age 89, of Osprey Florida, passed away March 8, 2025, after a long and valiant battle with kidney disease.
Clo was born in Darien, CT to the late Clelio M. Improta, Sr. and Elena (Frate) Improta. He attended Darien schools and graduated from Darien High School, class of 1954 where he played varsity football. He later attended Michigan State University where he met the love of his life and mother of his children, Ann K. (Krieg) Improta, recently celebrating 66 years of marriage. Following graduation with a BS in Business Administration, Clo went on to serve in the US Army, stationed in Oakland, CA, and was honorably discharged having achieved the rank of First Lieutenant.
Clo later returned to Connecticut, settling in Norwalk where he raised his family. He went to work as an insurance agent with Liberty Mutual and later owned his own Stamford, CT-based independent insurance agency, Underwriters, Inc., where he continued his practice in insurance until he retired from the insurance business.
Over the years, Clo and Ann have resided in Norwalk, CT, Redding, CT, Oxford, CT, Venice, FL, Newtown, CT and Osprey, FL as well as at their weekend retreat home at Lake Ariel, PA.
In addition to being a devoted father to his children and husband to his wife, Clo was also devoted to his faith in his lord and savior Jesus Christ. He lent his talents as an administrator to serve as president of the church council at St. Jerome Roman Catholic Church in Norwalk, he served on the vestry of St Paul's Episcopal Church in Darien where he and Ann also served as premarital counselors, and at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Venice, FL. He was a long-time volunteer with the Gideons International where he shared God's word handing out New Testaments to any who would accept them.
Clo is survived by his wife Ann, his son Jeffrey and wife Diane (Vallerie) Improta, his son Paul and wife Susan (Boyle) Improta, son James and wife Estrella "May" (Brillantes) Improta, and daughter Ellen and husband Edmund Michelson, Jr., grandchildren Christopher Improta, Emily Michelson Delgado, Kyle Michelson, Kenneth Improta, Olivia Michelson, Andrew Improta, Philip Improta and Kathryn Michelson Carmody, and great-grandchildren Isla Carmody, Miley Carmody and Leah Delgado.
Interment will be private followed by a celebration of Clo's life on April 5, 2025, at the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 1115 Center Rd, Venice FL 34292
In lieu of flowers, one can make a donation to the National Kidney Foundation https://www.kidney.org, the Gideons International https://www.gideons.org or to a charity of one's choice.
