Grace E. Burns, of Stamford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, November 15, at the age of 105. A lifelong resident of Stamford, Grace was born on April 23, 1920, to her parents, Charles and Anna Farrell.
She graduated from Stamford High School, Class of 1938, and later attended the Merrill Business School. While raising her children, Grace gave her time generously-volunteering at the Smith House and singing in the choir at St. John's Episcopal Church.
Grace had many interests, including music, reading, swimming, dancing, ice skating, and, of course, shopping at Lord & Taylor. In her younger years, she loved hosting dinner parties with friends, attending balls, and wearing elegant gowns. In her later years, Grace always had a smile to share and often told people, "It isn't easy being 100!"
Grace was predeceased by her parents and her husband, John B. Burns. She is survived by her three sons: Douglas and his wife, Brenda, of Ludlow, Vermont; Greg and his wife, Janice, of Stamford, Connecticut; and Scott and his wife, Katherine, of Charlotte, Vermont. She was also blessed with five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The Burns family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the women who cared for Grace over the past few years-Gloria, Helena, Henna, Nancy (her nurse) and Tina. Their kindness, support, and compassion filled Grace's days with comfort and love.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites those wishing to honor Grace's memory to consider a donation to Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County.
