Joan Lavelle Doyle
Joan Lavelle Doyle, 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 20th, 2025.
She was born on December 16th, 1929 to the late Dr. William J. and Katherine Dwyer Lavelle at 735 Crescent St., Astoria, Queens, NY. Joan spent her younger years in New Rochelle, NY and moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL later in life, before finally returning to Stamford, CT after taking ill to be close to family.
Joan attended high school at Dominican Academy in Manhattan, NY and went on to have many higher education accomplishments. She graduated from Saint Elizabeth University in Morristown, NJ with a degree in Home Economics which she put to use at Tarrytown High School teaching Home Economics in the '70s. After teaching, Joan went on to achieve her Master's Degree in Gerontology from the College of New Rochelle and was a Geriatric Case Manager in the field of Social Services where she took pride in helping her clients during her time in Florida.
She was a woman of strong faith and was a devoted parishioner at St. Pius X Church in Ft. Lauderdale before moving to Stamford where she frequented St. Bridget of Ireland Church.
Joan was predeceased by all 9 of her siblings including Margaret Lavelle, Mary Kane, Katherine Drew, William, Francis, Joseph, Father Thomas, John, and Edward Lavelle, and her daughter Joan Marie.
She is survived by her children Margaret Ann, Joseph and his wife Julie Kennedy, and Michael and his wife Margaret Doyle; grandchildren Alexander Moran, Liam, Margaret, Hannah, Brian, Matthew, Kaitlin, Terrence and William Doyle, as well as 58 nieces and nephews.
Joan lived a full and wonderful life marked by her love and dedication to her faith. She will be remembered by many for her kindness and strength.
Her family takes comfort in knowing she is reunited with her loved ones who have gone before.
Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life to remember Joan at St. Bridget of Ireland Church in Stamford on November 15th at 10 a.m.
Arrangements are in the care of County Cremation Service in Fairfield.
