Maria Tamburro Obituary
Maria DiPreta Tamburro, 81, a resident of Stamford, CT, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.
Maria was born on September 23, 1939 in Settefrati, Italy, the daughter of Domenico and Donata(Conetta) DiPreta.
Maria married Nicola on December 20, 1959 in Settefrati. On January 31, 1967 they began their adventure to America aboard the ship Leonardo DaVinci arriving in New York City on February 8, 1967 with their two young boys, Giuseppe and Luigi.
Together they worked to start the American Dream. Ma worked at Clairol for a short time. They continued to grow their family and welcomed 2 more children, Nicola and Antonietta.
Family was the most important thing to her, hosting Sunday dinners and holidays were special times for her. It gave her joy to have us around the table and enjoying her home cooked meals and telling stories about her life experiences. Ma graced all she met with her beautiful smile. Ma taught us through her actions to be kind, giving and selfless. Ma never stopped, you could find her in her garden, playing bocce weekly at Scalzi park, cooking, baking, wine making, volunteering for various Italian heritage events in the community, going upstate or visiting Settefrati annually. She loved life and adventures and lived with no regrets.
Ma was a member of the La Madonna Di Canneto Society and the Stamford Women's Bocce League.
Maria is survived by her children, Giuseppe (Nancy), Luigi (Erica), Nicola and Antonietta (John), her grandchildren, Dana, Valerie, Regina, Christina, Immanuel, Abigail, Isabella and Valentina and her great-grandchildren,Vincent, Viviana, Emery, Ezra, Reign and Atlas. She is also survived by her siblings, Anna Tamburro, Salvatore DiPreta, Silvana Evanko, Tony DiPreta, Rocco DiPreta and Eleanor Ritchie. In addition, her adoring sister in law in Italy, Luigia Tamburro and many nieces and nephews.
Maria is predeceased by her husband, Nicola, her parents Domenico and Donata and brother, Nicola Di Preta. Her in-laws, Giuseppe and Antonia(Pompa)Tamburro, Assunta Tamburro and Giovannina and Michele Antonelli, Mario and Donata Tamburro and Paul Evanko.
Visitation will be on Sunday, July 25th from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT. A Mass will be celebrated on Monday July 26th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia's,1184 Newfield Ave, Stamford with entombment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Greenwich, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Marias name to Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, www.stjude.org/donate.
