Martin Oscard Obituary

MARTIN LEONARD OSCARD died Thursday, June 2nd at the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence in Stamford. He was 93 years old. Born April 11, 1912 in Mount Vernon, New York, he was the son of the late Maurice Oscard and Helene Berthet Oscard. Raised in Lawrence, New York, he was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business, class of 1931. In the late 1930s and early 1940s he was the lead saxophonist for the Eddy Duchin Band and the Sammy Kaye Band. He was a member of the Merchant Marines in World War II. During the 1950s, he founded an automatic screw machine business, which he was still operating at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Libby Magida Oscard; his son, Douglas of Columbus, Ohio; his stepchildren, Suzanne Magida, Amy Magida Haskell and her husband, Richard, grandchildren Margaret, Gillian, and Jack Haskell, of Fairfield, CT; his sister Fifi Oscard Steinmetz; nephews Eric Steinmetz and Robert Oscard; niece Lillian Demott; and great-nephews and great-nieces. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Robert, and his niece, Nancy Steinmetz Murray.

A memorial service will be held on June 17th at 1:30 p.m. at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, CT. There are no calling hours. The family will receive friends at the memorial. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence.
