Richard A. Smith
Richard A. Smith, 79, of Stamford, passed away peacefully at home on February 11, 2023. He was born in Yonkers, NY, to Arnold and Elvena Smith. Richard graduated from Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, NY, and Stonehill College in Easton, MA. He also served in the 7th Engineer Battalion, US Army, before earning his MBA from UConn Stamford. He was a CMA, spending most of his financial career at Unilever and its predecessor companies, beginning with Chesebrough-Ponds in 1971. Richard was a man of faith, integrity and honesty. His humor was appreciated by all, and he unselfishly devoted his time and support to his family and their many activities. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. They enjoyed traveling, gathering with friends, and spending time in Delaware. He is also survived by his children, Jeffrey Smith of Trumbull, Janean (Joel) Carley of Trumbull, Kevin (Michele) Smith of Monroe and Karen (Ryan) LaRue of Stamford. He cherished many wonderful moments; and loved sharing jokes with his nine grandchildren, Cole, Ellie and Grant Smith, Andrew and Caleb Carley; Peyton and Kathleen Smith, and Sarah and Nora LaRue. He also leaves behind his brother Kerry (Deirdre) Smith, sisters Maureen (Michael) Beddows and Kathleen (Frank) Gray, and sisters-in-law Joanne Giangrande and Elise (John) Glynn. Richard will be missed by his many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law Philip Giangrande.

I am a colleague of Richard's daughter, Karen. As the adage goes, "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree." In knowing Karen, I have no doubt Richard must have been a great man. May he rest in peace <3
