Edward Davis Obituary

Edward L. Davis, Jr., 87, of North Port, FL, passed away Thursday morning at his residence.

Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late Edward Sr. and Teresa (Havrilla) Davis.

Edward was a graduate of Hazleton High School, Class of 1955, and served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

He began his career with PP&L in 1961 as a groundman. He progressed through the positions of towerman and construction foreman-tower erection. In 1982, he became a Construction Foreman-Structural, a position he maintained until his retirement in 1995.

After his retirement, he focused his time on woodworking, refurbishing old furniture and painting. His most recent favorite hobby was building birdhouses for friends and family. The streets of his current neighborhood are lined with the signature red roof that he finished off each birdhouse with.

Family was the most important thing to Edward. He loved when everyone was gathered together, laughing, sharing stories and good food and drink. He never missed an opportunity to give a good toast.

Edward is preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his sister Geraldine (Davis) Mitcho.

Waiting at the Rainbow Bridge are many cherished pets that have left along the way.

He is survived by his wife, the former Cecelia Carey, to whom he would have been married 62 years this November. Surviving are his sister, Anita (Davis) Acri, Conyngham; his son, Kerry, wife Ami, Warsaw, NY; daughters, Sheila Composto, husband Joseph, North Port, FL; Cindy Singley, husband Matthew, Oneida; Sara Klapac, husband Jeremy, Chesterfield, VA.

Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren, Holly (Philip) Barone; Kristin (Christopher) Decker; Thomas Atkinson; Paula Atkinson; Sierra Davis; Kyle (Shauna) Composto; Ryan (Marina) Composto; Cory Composto; Mark Singley; Matthew Singley. Edward has 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and is survived by his faithful pup Shadow and his finicky cat Ebony.

A memorial service will be held in North Port, FL, at the convenience of the family.
