Edward Kilanowski, 73, of Freeland, passed away Friday at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Twp.
Born in New York City, N.Y., he was the son of the late Edward and Helen (Ciaston) Kilanowski. He had been a truck driver for the Celadon Group of Indiana. Edward was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5010 and American Legion Post 473. Ed was a proud New Yorker and loved to reminisce about growing up in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
He was an honorably discharged U.S. Navy Vietnam veteran and Purple Heart recipient who served as an aviation electronics technician and had been deployed around the world. He was very proud that all of his children also joined the military, following in his footsteps.
A jack-of-all-trades, he created successful companies and mastered every job he chose to pursue. Ed's joy of acquiring knowledge never stopped, and as a lifelong learner he could provide an answer or advice for any situation. He had a passion for music, attending numerous live concerts and always having his eclectic collection of tunes playing wherever he went. He shared his love of camping, technology, old movies and Westerns, which influenced his children to adopt many of the same interests. Ed's constant wit always brought smiles and laughter to everyone around him, leaving a lasting impact filled with humorous memories.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were brothers, Stephen, Frank and Martin.
Surviving are a son, Edward S. Kilanowski Jr. and wife, Jenna, Reston, Va.; daughters, Sarah J. Beishline and husband, Robert, Hazleton; Lauren Krajewska and husband, Robert, Leesburg, Va.; and Deborah L. Kilanowska, Alexandria, Va.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
