Edward M. Uricheck, 77, of Hazle Twp., passed away Friday in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center after a courageous five-year battle with cancer.
He was born in Freeland, son of the late Michael and Julia (Belekanich) Uricheck.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of PC3.
Prior to retiring, he was employed at Bemis for over 38 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary Theresa Mayshock; and two brothers, Michael and Thomas.
He is survived by his two children, Mark Uricheck and his wife, Sandra, Scranton; and Leanne Uricheck, Hazle Twp; a brother, John Uricheck and his wife, Debora, Freeland; five grandchildren, Kelly Kishbaugh, Lauren Uricheck, Christopher, Kendra and Carina Kishbaugh; and several nieces and nephews.
Mark and Leanne would like to thank his brother, John, brother-in-law Robert Mayshock, sister-in-law, Theresa Mayshock, and cousin, Theresa Hollod for the care and consideration toward Edward the past few months.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday with a Mass of Christian Burial at the parish of Ss. Cyril and Methodius at the Church of St. Joseph.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
Friends and relatives may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday prior to the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Edwards memory to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or the Hazleton Animal Shelter would be appreciated by the family.

Wish we had kept up with each other. Served on board the USS Hunley AS31 together and both were discharged the same day. I still have his address to this day. So sorry to hear the news.
