1926 - 2021
Franklin S. Kisenwether Jr., 94, of Drums died peacefully Tuesday afternoon at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in West Hazleton, Sept. 17, 1926, he was a son of the late Franklin and Florence (Meiss) Kisenwether
After graduating from Hazleton High School, Franklin was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served under General Douglas MacArthur's command during World War II as a private first class in the 6th Division South Pacific infantry.
Franklin belonged to many clubs and organizations throughout the Hazleton area, most notably American Legion Post 795, Veterans of Foreign Wars Freeland 5010, past president of the Elk Horn Rod and Gun Club, past president of the St. John's United Church of Christ Consistory and past president for the Luther and St. Johns UCC Cemetery.
He was also a very gifted craftsman. He was a general contractor and custom cabinet maker. He made handcrafted fishing lures and enjoyed selling them at local sports shows. Franklin had many hobbies, which included hunting, fishing, camping and trap shooting. But most of all, he was a devoted father and husband who loved spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife of 70 years, the former Agnes (Lohenitz) Kisenwether; daughters, Barbara Shafer and her husband, Lee, Kingston; and Sylvia Kulesa, White Haven; sons, Robert Kisenwether and his wife, Karen, Drums; and Mark Kisenwether and wife, Mary, Florida; along with seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A private family burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
