Joanne Marsicano, 76, of Hazleton passed away peacefully Tuesday evening.
Born in Hazleton, she was the daughter of Josephine (DeForeman) Antonelli, Hazleton, and the late Francis X. Antonelli and was a member of Most Precious Blood Church, Hazleton.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband of 49 years, Joseph Marsicano, Hazleton; daughter, Maria Mignogna and husband, Michael; grandchildren, Lucia and Michael Mignogna, Malvern; brother, Francis X. Antonelli and wife, Mary, Hazleton; and sister, Patricia Lowery and husband, Paul, State College.
Joanne was a graduate of the Pottstown School of Nursing. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in school nursing from Bloomsburg University. Additionally, Joanne earned her Master of Science degree in school counseling from Marywood University. Joanne had a profound impact on her community where she worked for over 40 years as a respected and beloved school nurse in Hazleton Area School District. She took pride in serving the students, staff and parents of the district throughout the years. Joanne was the proud recipient of the Pearl Award, given to women who demonstrate professionalism, excellence, achievement, responsibility and leadership in their chosen careers. Joanne was a member of numerous professional education and nursing organizations on the local, state and national levels.
More than anything, Joanne was a beloved wife, a devoted mother and doting grandmother "Mimi." She adored her grandchildren and always described them as "(her) world." She loved every moment spent with them: reading books, playing games, cheering them on at sporting events and was always available for much-needed hugs, kisses and snuggles. She will truly be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday in Most Precious Blood Church, Hazleton. Her private Mass of Christian Burial will follow.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Drums.
Donations may be made in Joanne's memory to the Hazleton Area Public Library or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Joseph A. Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th St., Hazleton, is entrusted with the arrangements.
