John R. Andrefsky, of Hazleton, passed away Friday.

Born in Weatherly on June 12, 1939, he was the son of the late Connie (Urban) and John Andrefsky. He graduated from Weatherly High School in 1957, where he scored more than 1,400 points playing basketball and participated in the 1957 Dream Game. After high school, John joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He then worked as a branch manager for multiple financial companies.

John married the love of his life, Andrea C. (Matz) Andrefsky, on April 20, 1963. They had two children, John and Desiree Andrefsky. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He also loved spending time at the shore with his wife and friends and was a lifelong member of the Young Men's Polish Association.

John is survived by his daughter, Desiree; his son, John; daughter-in-law, Nancy; and grandchildren, Johnny, Lauren, Kevin and Julia.

He enjoyed spending time with his children at their sporting events. He was a kind and caring person who always put his family first. He diligently and lovingly took care of his wife, Andrea, in her last few years.

John was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Andrea; and his sister, Dolores Bushman.

There will be calling hours at 9 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Grace Church, followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m.
