John J. "Sparky" Mushock, of McAdoo, passed away Saturday morning in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton.
Born in Jeanesville, he was the son of the late John and Anna Mushock.
John served as a private first class in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was a member of the Church of All Saints, McAdoo, and the former St. Kunegunda's Parish.
Prior to his retirement, he worked for Roadway Trucking of Hazleton and Maisler Trucking of Allentown as a tractor-trailer driver. After retiring, he was caretaker for St. Kunegunda's Church, McAdoo. His biggest passion in life was his church and feeding the poor and hungry.
John was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Frances, for 72 years and a loving father to all of his children. He once loved to hunt and fish up the Juniata River and play cards with the guys. John also had a great love for birds. He was a man that always put others first and always offered to help others in need beside his family.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was a sister, Catherine Sabatura; brothers, William and Albert; a granddaughter, Melissa Osifat; and a grandson, Joseph Mushock.
Surviving is his wife, the former Frances Miskiewicz, they would have celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary Oct. 17; daughters, Carol Pellock and husband, Thomas, of McAdoo; Patricia Osifat of Silverbrook; sons, Thomas and wife, Susan, of Emmaus; and John of McAdoo; nine grandchildren, Chrissy, Julie, Mary, Michelle, Eric, Steven, John, Billy and Michael; 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Church of All Saints, McAdoo. Monsignor William Baker will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Kunegunda Cemetery, McAdoo.
A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, face masks and social distancing practices are required.
