Matthew Joseph Feifer, 58, of Nuremberg passed away early Saturday morning at his home following a unexpected illness.
Born in Elkton, Md., on May 6, 1963, he was the son of Loretta (Greising) Schlauch, Mountain Grove, and the late Anthony Feifer, and spent the past 55 years in Nuremberg after moving from Elkton, Md.
Matthew was a 1982 graduate of West Hazleton High School and Hazleton Area Vocational Technical School's Masonry Program, where he won the award for the best student in this program. He worked as a tile mechanic for several masonry tile installers, the last being Finkel Tile.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served from 1983 to 1986. He was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Nuremberg.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, planting gardens around his house and spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving, in addition to his mother and stepfather, are his wife, the former Sharon Grusastkie, to whom he was married on May 3, 1986; three daughters, Kayla Feifer, Philadelphia; Sara Feifer Rimmer, Hazleton; Ashara Keefer and her husband, Ricky, Weatherly; four grandchildren, Adonis, Mason, Olivia and Madelyn; two sisters, Debra Dennison and her husband, Mark, Zion Grove; and Juanita Kanter and her husband, Randy, Mountain Grove; a brother, Anthony Feifer, Weston; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a date, time and location to be announced in the future.
