Richard K. Thomas, 88, of Thomas Farms, Drums, passed away peacefully Wednesday at his home on St. Johns Road, surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Drums, he was the son of the late Ralph and Meta (Kemp) Thomas, and lived in the family homestead.

Rich grew up working the family farm beginning early in his childhood. He was passionate about growing crops and took great pride in their annual harvest. He instilled his passion for farming to the next generation. Because of his love for his land, it was Luzerne County's first farm in farmland preservation.

He served on the Butler Twp. Zoning Board and was a past supervisor of Butler Twp.

He was an avid hunter and member of the former Pulpit Rock Gun Club.

Richard is survived by his loving and devoted wife, the former Betty Diehl. They shared 64 years of marriage.

Also surviving are his children, Diane Thomas and partner, Ken Drum; Robert Thomas and wife, Yvonne; Ronald Thomas and wife, Kelly; and treasured grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Poppop," Amanda and husband, Felipe Vargas; Robert Thomas; Christine Hager; Brionna Thomas; and Kyle Thomas; and seven great-grandchildren.

At Richard's request, all services are private.

Arrangements are under the direction of Joseph B. Conahan Funeral Home Inc., 532 N. Vine St., Hazleton.
