William Bowman Obituary

William J. Bowman Sr., 76, of Quakake passed away Tuesday at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Irene (Hegyes) Bowman.

Bill was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Vietnam War on the USS Dodge County as a gunner's mate.

He was a devoted member of St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church, McAdoo, and a graduate of Hazleton High School, Class of 1965.

Prior to retiring, he was employed at Jeddo Highland Coal Co. for more than 46 years.

A classic car enthusiast, and especially fond of Chevys, Bill was a member of the Anthracite Automobile Club of America. He was past president of Tamaqua Street Machines and organized car cruises to benefit the American Cancer Society.

He was also a member of the Hometown Volunteer Fire Company.

Bill enjoyed many days walking the flea markets looking for a good find and made many friends over the years. He will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Susan (Sell) Bowman; sons, William J. Bowman Jr. and wife, Angela, Tamaqua; and Robert Bowman and companion, Mara McLaughlin, Lattimer; and grandchildren, William III; Brittany and fiancé, William Cavanaugh; Juliana and Tucker Bowman.

His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from Damiano Funeral Home Inc., Blaine and Cleveland streets, McAdoo.

The Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in St. Michael's B.C. Church, McAdoo, by the Rev. Gregory Hosler.

Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

A calling hour will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home.
