Sahlberg, Adelbert (Del) Hayden

Saratoga Springs: Adelbert (Del) Hayden Sahlberg passed away Saturday, November 23, 2013, after a short illness at the age of 89. Del was born July 7, 1924 in Saratoga Springs, NY and lived there until enlisting in the Armed Forces in 1942. He served with the 9th Air Force in Europe until 1946, seeing action across the European front. Returning back home after the war, he met and married fellow Saratogian Adele Wait on December 5, 1948. Del worked at the G.F. Harvey Company until moving to Oswego, NY and later Elmira, NY where he retired from the F.M. Howell Company. He was a longtime member of the Lions Club and Sons of the American Revolution as well as a member in good standing in numerous other organizations. His wife Adele preceded him in death. Survivors include two sons, William (wife, Janet) Sahlberg of Coopersville, MI and Richard (wife, Donna) Sahlberg of Reno, NV; and three grandsons, Michael (wife, Tami), Benjamin (wife, Jesse) and Matthew, all of Grand Rapids, MI. Relatives and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 28 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs 584-5373. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. at the funeral home and burial, with military honors, will follow at Greenridge Cemetery, Lincoln Ave. Donations may be made in Del's memory to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
