BROOKS, Agnes "Jean" Hughey

July 29, 1937 went to be with the Lord January 22, 2015 at Arnot Ogden hospital after an extended illness. Jean was born in Kane, PA the first child of the late Rev. Leo Hughey Sr. and Mary Shirfield Hughey. Jean was a 1955 graduate of Elmira Free Academy. She was married to Donald D. Brooks and from this union she embraced the rewarding joys of motherhood. She leaves to cherish her memories: sons Donald Jr.(Yvonne), Reginald (Mary), Kenneth (Virginia), Gary, Robert (Joyce) of Maryland and daughters Nicole of Elmira, and Yolanda Tann(Tracy ) of Philadelphia, PA. She was loved and adored by her many grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jean was the elder of eight siblings; Leo Hughey Jr. (predeceased), Blanche Eldora Cruz-Bey (predeceased). She is survived by brothers John Hughey of San Jose, CA, Plesie Hughey of Binghamton and sisters Ira Scharborough and Nola Bridges of Elmira, and Nina Robinson of Poughkeepsie, NY. Jean was employed at the A&P plant for over 15 years. She was also employed for a short time at Trayer as a machinist. Family and friends are invited to visit Faith Temple Community Church, Harper St., Elmira on Tuesday January 27th from 12pm to 1pm. Services will directly follow at 1pm. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the Arnot Health Dialysis Unit for their exemplary level of care and compassion towards Jean during her years of treatment. Walter J. Kent Funeral Home is assisting the family.

To the family, Mother Brooks was precious she was such a sweet woman. Every time I saw her she was a source of inspiration to me!
