Delbert Laverne Henson

Delbert LaVerne Age 82, of Waverly, passed away on July 16, 2006 at home after an extended illness. Born August 9, 1923 in Tioga Center, the son of the late Delbert and Arra Nichols Henson. Delbert was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving four and a half years in the European Theater during World War II. He was a Life Member of the Waverly Veterans of Foreign Wars. He retired from Welliver Construction in 1981, where he worked as a carpenter. Delbert also enjoyed fishing and playing cards. Delbert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Leona Simons Henson; five sons, Michael, Donald, Glenn, Keith (Millie) Henson, all of Waverly, and Robert Hines; five daughters, Robin (Harold) Corby of Barton, Kim (Robert) Fuller of Waverly, Terri (Duane) Richter of Lockwood, Janet Sandroni of Waverly, and Diane Allard. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; also his brother, Francis (Catherine) Henson of Owego; and his sisters, Veronica Mae Apalovich of Endicott, and Doris Grey of Boyton Beach, Florida. At Delbert's request there will be no calling hours. A Graveside Ceremony will be held Friday, July 21, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Glenwood Cemetery, Waverly, New York, with Reverend Ann Canfield officiating. Mr. Henson will also be afforded full Military Honors at the cemetery.
