Dennis M. King
On February 16, 2021, the family of Dennis M. King said a loving goodbye to the most colorful among us. He passed away after a brief illness and hospitalization in Williamsville, NY. Born in Jamestown, NY, December 11, 1949, to the late John R. and Madeline (Gavigan) King, he was a resident of Clarence, NY, formerly of California and Elmira.
Dennis leaves behind his sisters Karen (William) Waffner of East Aurora, NY, Kathleen (George) Macko of Naperville, IL, and Christina (William) Poliseo of Littleton, CO, and beloved friend Roberta Yohn of Cheektowaga, NY. Also, loving nieces and nephews: Todd and Jill Waffner , Eric and Jen Waffner, and Kate and Kevin Murphy; Adam and Allina Macko , Tynan and Sarah Macko, and Charles Macko and Taylor Page; Gregory Poliseo, and Emily and Anthony Manzi. He will be missed by great nieces and nephews Ella and Madeline, Simon and Willa, Hanna and Emma, Francesca and Shane, Morgan, Logan and Harley, and Vivian. He is also survived by many King and Gavigan cousins.
Upon graduation from Elmira Free Academy in 1969, Dennis served in the Navy aboard the USS Furse until 1971. After a few years living and working in New York State, he moved to San Jose, CA, where he worked for many years for the Versatec Company. He returned to Elmira in 1998 and was of great help to our aging parents.
Dennis loved his family and all its wonderful memories, the outdoors, sports, and his Irish heritage. He was a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, John M. Lee Division in Elmira, and he volunteered his time at Chemung County Meals on Wheels. He was a super fan of the Bills, the Sabres and the Yankees.
Interment service for Dennis will be at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Elmira at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, with the Rev. Richard Farrell officiating. McInerny Funeral Home is assisting the family.
