Dorothy Dupree Obituary

Dorothy G. Age 84, formerly of Elmira, NY, died Monday, June 23, 2003 at Bethany Manor, Horseheads, NY. Dorothy was born October 5, 1918 in Fort Covington, NY, daughter of Arthur and Blanche Latreille D'Amour. She graduated from Fort Covington High School in 1937, then went on to Potsdam College, State University of New York, where she received a Bachelors and Masters degree. Dorothy also attended Vassar College on a grant from Vassar for post-graduate study of literature. She taught at the Mohawk School in Hogansburg for seven years and then was transferred to Salmon River Central School in Bombay-Fort Covington, NY where she taught junior high English for sixteen years. Dorothy retired in 1974 and relocated to Daytona Beach, FL where she lived until returning to New York to live in Horseheads, to be close to her daughter Dorothy Jane Luke Leblanc. While in Florida Dorothy was an active member of the AAUW, Daytona Beach chapter. She was preceded in death by her first husband Odelee J. Luke and second husband, Raymond J. Dupree. Dorothy is also predeceased by her son, Odelee J. Luke, Jr. and brother, Carmen L. D'Amour. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy Jane and Jude A. Leblanc; two grandsons, Jude N. Leblanc and Paul A. Leblanc both of Aliso Viejo, CA; great-granddaughters, Taylor Leblanc and Silvia Leblanc; great-grandsons, Andrew Leblanc and Luke Leblanc; and nieces, Michele D'Amour Podd and Christine D'Amour Holden. Friends are invited to call at the McInerny Funeral Home, corner of West Water and Walnut Streets, Elmira, on Thursday, June 26, 2003 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A memorial service will follow at 8:00 PM. Burial will take place in Fort Covington NY. Donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to the Falck Cancer Center, c/o Arnot Ogden Medical Center Foundation, 600 Roe Ave., Elmira NY 14905.
