Harold Douglas

Harold L. "Sarge" Age 66 of Abbott St., Elmira, NY, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2004 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Harold was born in Granville, NY, son of the late Harold and Cora (Lindsey) Douglas. Harold served our country in the United States Navy and US Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was also a recruiter for the US Army in Elmira for several years. Harold retired from Elmira Correctional Facility as a Correctional Officer for 18 Years. Harold's favorite past times were listening to jazz and blues music. He loved writing poetry and watching baseball, along with playing golf and bowling. He also enjoyed "playing the ponies" (OTB). Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, of 38 years; daughters, Mary (Robert) Paganelli of CA and Dana Shappee Link of Elmira; son, Richard (Paula) Douglas of VA; brothers, Edward, Richard and Phillip Douglas; sister, Lorraine Troy; grandchildren, Randy (Jenn) Reese, Jacquelyn Reese, Anthony and Dominic Paganelli, Kyle Smith, Emily, John and Margaret Shappee, Margaret and Ian Douglas; great-grandchildren, Divad White and Conor Reese; sons-in-law, John M. Shappee and James Reese. Harold was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Reese. Family and Friends are invited to attend a Military Honor Service in Woodlawn National Cemetery on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at 2 p.m.
