Kenneth Brown Obituary
Rev. Dr. Kenneth I. Age 76, of Ulster RR 2, Smithfield Twp., PA, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 22, 2005, at Memorial Hospital, Towanda, PA. Born September 23, 1928 in Waverly, NY, he was the son of the late Laurence Brown and Irene Carmen Brown. Ken graduated from Troy High School, Mansfield Teachers College, and continued his education at Baptist Bible College and Seminary, Westminster Theological Seminary, and Grace Theological Seminary, earning a Doctorate in Theology. Ken taught at the Seminary level in New York, Pennsylvania, California, and Detroit. He taught at the college level in PA and Florida. He pastored churches in NY, PA, CA, IN and FL. He was ordained for the ministry in 1956 at Stanfordville Baptist Church, Hallstead, PA. His passion was teaching and training men for the ministry. Former students of Dr. Brown number in the hundreds and are serving in churches, missions, seminaries and colleges across the US, in India, Africa, and Australia. He led about 30 tours to the Holy Land, continuing his desire to teach and train individuals in the Bible. Ken's four sons are pastors in NY, PA, NJ, and NH, and his daughter is married to a pastor in ME. Ken was serving as Pastor Emeritus at Grace Baptist Church in East Smithfield, PA. All of his family look forward to seeing him in heaven again through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as personal Savior. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Zelda Joyce Brown, at home; his children, Judy Cole and her husband, Rev. Howard Cole of Augusta, Maine, Rev. Alan Brown and his wife, Kathryn Brown of Parsippany, NJ, Rev. Laurence Brown and his wife, Lorie Brown of North Conway, NH, Rev. Mark Brown and his wife, Debra Brown of Elmira, NY, Rev. Kurt Brown and his wife, Dede Brown of East Smithfield, PA; 20 grandchildren; brothers, Donald Brown and his wife, Mabel of Ulster RR2, L. Duane Brown and his wife, Shirley of Brooksdale, FL; sisters, Arlene Brown of Nedrow, NY, Sara Shumway of Towanda, PA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at 10 a.m. at the Independent Baptist Church, Cherry Street, Towanda, PA, with Rev. Frank Hayman, Pastor of the Allegheny Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain Lake Cemetery, Burlington Twp., PA. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 to 9 at the Grace Baptist Church, Smithfield Twp., PA, and on Tuesday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Independent Baptist Church in Towanda. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to the Grace Baptist Church Building Fund, RR 2 Box 223, Ulster, PA 18850, in Rev. Kenneth I. Brown's memory.
