Lynn Staniunas Obituary

Lynn Ellen Staniunas

Lynn Ellen Staniunas passed away Tuesday, December 8 2020, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, peacefully and in the company of family after a brief illness.

A ceremony of remembrance will be held on a later date.

Born January 29 1947, in Somerville, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Anna and Robert Buckley. As a teenager, Lynn worked at McCrory's Department store in Framingham, Massachusetts. It was there that she met and soon after married her great love, Phil. Lynn and Phil celebrated two wedding anniversaries per year; one for their elopement and the other for when the formally wed in front of their families. Thereafter moving to Horseheads, New York, where they made their home and their three children were born and raised. While in Horseheads, Lynn worked as a registered nurse at the United Cerebral Palsy House and then as a pediatric home health care nurse. Relocating to coastal North Carolina, Lynn enjoyed her days tending to her dogs, cats, and birds, entertaining family and friends, and frequenting the local pool. Lynn especially enjoyed jaunts to coastal haunts where she and Phil would steal away and where family would routinely join them. Lynn loved the sounds of the surf and the joyous ruckus of her family.

Ever a woman of family, Lynn enjoyed the frequent ensemble of her children and grandchildren. During these gatherings, she would proudly announce how incredibly fortunate and grateful she felt for the healthy and happy brood surrounding her. Never did she realize that it was us who were the lucky ones. Those who knew Lynn basked in her great capacity to love and the warmth and tenderness in the care she afforded. Her gifts of affection and kindness extended beyond the bounds of family to those who found themselves in her charge during her nursing career. Her charity to furry and feathered things, too, was unparalleled: an endless parade of animals would live with Lynn and Phil through their many years together because of her self-imposed responsibility to rescue an animal in need. But it was her horse, Poco that held that most special place among all her pet-loves, riding whenever she could.

Lynn will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and determined spirit. Her ashes will be spread in Edisto, South Carolina, a favorite spot she held dear where many memories with her Phil and family were created and endure. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to your local SPCA in the spirit of Lynn's great compassion for all things furry.

A beloved Wife and Mother, Lynn is survived by her dutiful Husband of over 55 years, Phil, daughters Laurie and Michelle, and son Philip; daughter-in-law Claire, sons-in-law Mark and Jeremiah, and her grandchildren Payton, Anna, Erin, Sean, Philip, and Caleb. She is also survived by her brother, Robert and his wife Maria, many siblings-in-law and extended family whom she loved dearly.
