Madeline Sweeney Obituary
Services celebrating Madeline's life were held Monday, March 10, 2008. A prayer service, led by Father Richard Farrell, was held at 11:45 a.m. at McInerny Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Church, Elmira. Father Farrell was the presider, assisted by Deacon George Welch. The funeral pall was placed on Madeline's casket by her son Timothy Sweeney, with daughter Kathy Sweeney Meck placing the crucifix. Scripture readings were given by niece Connie Sweeney and granddaughter Courtney Sweeney. Deacon Welch read the gospel and delivered the homily. Father Farrell led the prayers of the faithful. Offertory gifts were presented by niece Deborah Murray, with her children, Katie, Justin, and Jennifer. Eucharistic ministers were niece Laurie Sweeney, and family friend Judy Lown. Remarks of remembrance were given by Madeline's son Paul Sweeney. Music was led by organist Mary Montanarella and the St. Mary's Resurrection Choir, with special selections sung by Meghan Mackowiak. Grandsons, Joseph, Brian, Michael, John, Daniel, and Sean Sweeney were pallbearers. Interment followed at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. After the graveside service family and friends gathered at Bernie Murray's for a luncheon and the sharing of memories.

Madeline always had a special place in my heart. I am so sad for her passing but know that the wonderful traditions she left behind will continue to live on in all of you. She was a one of a kind and truly a beautiful lady. I am sorry for your loss.

It saddens me to hear of your loss. I have known your Mom, Madeline for many, many years. A wonderous lady and dear friend to many including my late mother (Ruby). Growing up I recall your Mom visiting at my mothers house weekly. Growing up with Kathleen, we knew they would join forces and share information/gossip, so we didn't get away with much.
