Age 71, of Eagles Mere, PA, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2009, at the Geisinger Medical Center after a short illness. Martha was born in Elmira, NY on June 19, 1938, a daughter of the late James P. and Mildred Crist Hunter. She graduated from the MacDuffie School in Springfield, MA and Green Mountain College in Poultney, VT. Martha married Newton G. Pendleton on June 27, 1959. Martha was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was blessed to live in her favorite place, Eagles Mere, where she enjoyed her game of bridge, the beach, and her many friends. Surviving are her spouse, Newton; her son, Newton G. Pendleton III (Tripp) and his wife, Katrine, their children, Henry and Anne; her daughter, Sara P. Funk and her husband, Brian and their children, Ted and Rob; three sisters, Mary Florence Reed, Elmira, NY, Alice Weeman, Elmira, NY, and Rebecca Sager of Naples, FL; a brother, J. Philip Hunter, of Elmira, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 18th, 2009, at the Eagles Mere Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John H. Clark, officiating. Interment will be in the Eagles Mere Cemetery. The family will provide the flowers and request that Memorial Contributions be sent to the Eagles Mere Foundation, PO Box 402, Eagles Mere, PA 17731-0402.
