Mary J. Boyle
BOYLE, Mary Jane Topping

Was born in Elmira, NY on 14 December 1939 and died in the Manor Nursing Home in Horseheads, NY on 6 April 2012 with complications from Diabetes, as did her father Glenn, and brothers Lawrence and Peter before her. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Eleanor New Topping, and most of her aunts and uncles. She had a short marriage to George Boyle and that produced the love of her life, James Boyle. She successfully raised her son James and was greatly involved in raising her grandson, Christopher Boyle. As she was a single mother, she had many jobs to support her family. She had many friends from school, from her work, from peers and son James, and toward the end, heath care providers Randi Kline and Marilyn Ross from the Manor. Special friends were Nancy Hable, Jeannette Andrews, longtime friend and Skill One supervisor at the Manor and her elder brother, James Topping. She had a hard life but she also had a stout heart, made a happy life for herself and was proud to the end. A Remember Mary Jane Wake for family and friends will be held at the Hickory House on Watkins Rd. from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, 14 April 2012. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, a donation to the American Cancer Society is encouraged.

Dear Jim:
My sincere sorrow for the loss of your mother. Mary Jane and I have been friends since you and my son (Nick Sampsell) wre born a day apart. Even though our paths seldom crossed over the years we always enjoyed seeing each other when they did. I was blessed to have had a nice visit with your mom when she was a patient at the Arnot back in the fall. When you look up at night know that the brightest star in the sky is your mother. Her love will always shine within you.

Jim and family, we have never met but I knew Mary Jane from the old TAE days and my wife Barbara Olney Bjorck Woughter and I would visit Mary Jane when we were in town. She was one of Barbara's dearest friends and now they are together again carrying on as only childhood friends and school class mates can do. You are all in my prayers.

Dear Jim and Family,
It had been decades since I had seen Mary Jane but for the early part of my life she was my "buddy" and a dear cousin. We touched base often in the early years and after I married and moved away. She never missed an opportunity to visit me when I got back to Elmira. She was good to my parents ( Steve and Florence)and stayed connected to them over the years. It is another chapter of NEW history sadly closed. Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. She was a very special lady. Jim I'm sure you know that you were the pride of her life from day one when she brought you home. No mother has been more devoted than she was to you!I hope you find peace in knowing you were loved so much.

Jim, your Mom was a lovely person. She never failed to recognize me over the years no matter where we ran into each other. I worked with her years ago at the Bethany Center and she spoke of you with fierce love and pride. God Bless your Mom, no more pain for her. God Bless you and yours.

She was a second mother to me and many of Jim's friends. She taught me to be strong, to keep a sense of humor, to stay fearless in the face of adversity. We shared a love of borzois and ice cold sodas on hot summer days surrounded by friends. Her door was always open and there we found acceptance and advice. I bless the day I met Jim and was privileged to become part of her extended family. She was one in a million, and she will be in our hearts forever. Love to Jim and Topher.
