Norman Fidelman Obituary
North Bellmore - Norman Fidelman passed away on January 8, 2021 at the age of 92 at the Belair Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in North Bellmore, NY where he resided for the last 11 months of his life. Norman was born in Elmira, NY on December 15, 1928 to Isadore and Ida (Saroff) Fidelman. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Adelphi University in 1951, a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics degree from State University of New York in 1960, and a Master of Science in Educational Psychology in 1965 from Fordham University. He served in the United States Army from 1951-1954 and was honorably discharged. He was never deployed to the battlefield in Korea, but he did win the ping pong championship at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
After the proverbial generation conflicts working for his father at Fidelman Produce in Elmira, NY, Norman went back to college to become a math teacher. He spent many years as a beloved teacher at Long Island public schools ending his career in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District. He had endless stories about those times and his students.
Although a bachelor all his life, Norman enjoyed socializing with his many friends and stayed very close to his family. He was very devoted to helping the older generations of his family and was very attentive to his cousins, nieces and nephews. A kindhearted soul but somewhat eccentric, he was popular and liked talking and joking with everyone. Norman would stay fit by swimming daily in his apartment building and the Freeport Recreation Center until his health declined. He was a very frugal person all his life, and generously left all his assets to the many charities he admired and supported.
Norman was preceded in death by his father, mother, and younger sister, Shirley.
He is survived by his brother, Barry, his sister-in-law, Odile, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Norman wanted to spend his last days in Florida but those plans which were in motion were stopped by the COVID19 pandemic. In recognition of that wish, Barry is planning a family memorial service in 2022 to scatter his ashes in Naples, FL.
