Robert Edger Obituary
Elmira - Age 67, passed away peacefully at the Robert Packer Hospital after a 3 year battle with cancer. Bob was born in Elmira, son of the late Robert F. Edger and Victoria (Edger) McGovern. He was also predeceased by his brother John Ilardi. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Mary Malnoske Edger; son and daughter-in-law, Jodi J. and Lorrie Edger of Elmira with children Reilly and Collin; daughter and son-in-law, Jessica E. and Jay Hillman of Elmira with son Colton; brothers and sister-in-law, Roger and Peggy Ilardi of Victor NY, Rick McGovern of Elmira and William Edger of Elmira; several nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and good friends. Bob was the patriarch of the Edger family and founded Edger Enterprises of Elmira in 1976. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Through hard work, fairness and compassion, he cared greatly for the community he lived in and never forgot where he came from. When Bob started in business, he deeply appreciated all those who helped him. He took great pride in the quality of every job he and his company were involved with. Bob valued strength and loyalty and showed his appreciation for these values as he gradually handed down the family business to his children. As his children took a larger role in the business and his family grew, he found joy in watching them succeed as he did. He enjoyed spending summers drinking beer at the lake with Mary, winters in Florida with his family, and nights at home with his cat, Benny. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira, on Saturday, December 23, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira, on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Bob with a donation to the Guthrie Cancer Center at Corning Hospital, 2 Guthrie Drive, Corning NY 14830. The Edger family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Brian Cassetta, who has been a lifelong friend and longtime doctor to Bob, for the wonderful care and support he has provided to Bob over the years.

Dearest Mary and family,
Too many years have passed since we shared a fun filled friendship with you and Bob. So many fun filled memories, adventures and laughter. Bob had a wonderful laugh, so genuine and humorous. He must be so proud of the wonderful legacy he leaves behind, a beautiful, successful and loving family. Mary,we are saddened to hear of Bob's passing.Susi and I send you and your family our thoughts and prayers.Bob's obituary was so right on! I always have looked up to him for all of those qualities. In my eyes that is how you measure a person, and Bob surely measured up and then some. From pouring sidewalks for urban renewal to erecting buildings he was always still Bob and I was always still JOEY LOL. May his strength and your faith hold you all up.

Our family feels such sadness that Bob left us all so soon. Jerry will miss their phone calls since we moved to South Carolina. We have always held Bob in such high regard and had immense respect for who he was. So sorry for the loss of a very special, kind, caring, and humble man. Bob always did things from his heart and never wanted accolades for his kindness and generosity. I didn't know Mr. Edger personally, but I was present at the 2009 dedication of the Vietnam Veteran's Museum in Elmira.
As was mentioned theatday's ceremonies, Mr. Edger and his wife donated the building for this wonderful purpose.
I always viewed that generosity from afar with great respect and admiration.
My deepest sympathy to the Edger family. May the memory of Robert be eternal.
