Manwaring, Ronald A., Sr.

A longtime resident of Southport, passed away peacefully, Fri. Mar. 1, 2013 at Arnot-Ogden Medical Center following a four week battle with cancer with his loving family at his side at the age of 75. Born on June 26, 1937, Ron was the son of the late, Harold & Dorothy Brock Manwaring. He married the love of his life, Donna Roberts in 1958. Sadly, they buried their first daughter, Tanya two days after birth. Ronald was a tractor trailer driver for over 50 years and retired from Preston Trucking. He was presently employed by Kate's Klean Co. and worked at Hardinge Bros Co. A proud man who would do anything for anyone, Ron loved his Yankees and Steelers. He enjoyed spending time building light houses. Ron is survived by his loving family, wife of 55 years, Donna Roberts Manwaring, Southport; their children, Sherella & Pastor Donald Moulden, Winchester, VA; Ronald A. Jr. & Shawna Manwaring, Horseheads; three grandchildren, Karah and Laura Manwaring and Valerie Kramer; sister, Patricia & Joseph McDonald, Elmira; brother, Harold & Mary Manwaring, Elmira; brother-in-law, Charles Roberts, FL; several nieces, nephews and his feline companion, "Bradley". In addition to his parents and daughter, Ron was predeceased by a sister, Joyce. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport/Elmira on Mon. Mar. 4, 2013 between the hours of 3-7 p.m. Funeral services will take place at the funeral home on Tues. at 10 a.m. with Ronald's son-in-law, Pastor Donald Moulden officiating and interment following in Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads.

You will always be Big Ron to those of us who were so very lucky to have you in our lives. I've known you since I was 10 years old as my neighbor, becoming your daughter-in-law for 21 years, and knowing my daughters Karah and Laura had the best grandpa leaving them with memories to cherish, You are a very special man and you will be so very missed, rest in peace "Big Ron"

Donna and Family, Big ron was just that... big Ron... growing up on phoenix ave was a great place to live, and and straight across from our house was the manwaring house. Big ron was always outside doing something,digging a hole, building a shed, blasting off rockets, and he always had a crowd of kids watching. I looked at him like he was the big kid in our group of friends. Big Ron was a great man,father, husband, and friend to every kid in our group of guys.may you rest in peace my friend.... here lies a big big man BIG RON..

Donna, I am so sorry for your loss Ron was a great man and will be missed. I know I was really young when we lived next door, but I do have great memories and I know what you and Ron mean to my parents Bill and Jeanne Wilkins as well as my sister and I.
