Samuel Kucko Obituary
Samuel "Sam" Kucko, 86, "sailed" peacefully in the arms of the angels to meet Jesus on July 27th at his home of 57 years in Horseheads, NY. Sam was born in Endicott, NY on November 10, 1927, son of Samuel and Pauline Kucko. He served in the Merchant Marines and then in the US Navy as a Seaman First Class during WWII, honorably discharged in 1946. In 1948, he met and married Susanna Caldwell, his wife of 65 years who predeceased him only 12 days prior. Sam worked for Sun Oil, Overhead Door, and the Clute Motor Company, from where he retired in 1996. Sam loved to garden and meticulously maintained the family yard. He was a devout sports fan of the NY Giants, never missed his kid's games and practices, and loved to read. He was a founding member of the HHS Booster Club, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and was passionate about serving St. Mary Our Mother Church as a Eucharistic minister as well as in many other capacities. He is predeceased by his infant son, Michael, and survived by his children, Susan Kucko, Dr. William (Mary Jane) Kucko, Ann Kucko and James (Julie) Kucko; his siblings, Robert (Sally) Kucko, Bernie (Bob) Carman, and David (Peggy) Kucko; grandchildren, Jennifer, Caitlin, Nathan, Jimmy, Jared and Sierra; and one great-grandchild, Mel. Relatives and friends are invited to call at St. Mary Our Mother Church, 816 W, Broad Street, Horseheads, NY on Thursday, July 31st, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held immediately following with Rev. Christopher Linsler and Rev. Robert MacNamara. He will be laid to rest at St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery following his mass with Military Honors. The family sends their heartfelt gratitude to David Kane and family, great friend and neighbor who had always been there for nearly 60 years. We thank and acknowledge the caregivers, Bonnie, Donna, Kim, Susan, Katie, Courtney, Jill and Melissa. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the American Cancer Society in Susanna Kucko's memory or to St. Mary Our Mother Church. Dear Cousins,
The word "Sorry" doesn't begin to express what I want to tell you right now. I don't know if the right words exist. I can't imagine your grief, losing your parents so close together. Uncle Sam was such a great uncle to me, no matter how he was feeling he always called to check on me.
