Theodore Bowen Obituary

BOWEN, Theodore K.

"Ted"

Elmira: Born April 13, 1948 in Syracuse, NY. On Saturday, September 17, 2011, Ted's heroic 15-year battle with cancer came to an end and he went to his rest with Christ. Ted's good humor, courage and grace throughout his battle were an inspiration to those who knew him. He was principal of Thomas Edison High School in Elmira Heights from 1987 to his retirement in 2003. Ted was a passionate golfer and spent many happy hours at Corning County Club, where he served as club president and board member. As much as he loved being on the golf course his true passion was spending time with his immediate and extended family.

Ted is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Eileen Lane Bowen; daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Greg Tombline with their son Joshua; brothers and sisters, Nancy (Walter) McKeen, Pamela Bowen, Daniel (Patty) Bowen, Phillip Bowen and Terry (Bruce) White; along with a large, loving extended family.

Ted will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects to Ted and to help celebrate his life. Calling hours are on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Sts., from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 12:00 noon at St. Patrick's Church, Elmira.

Those wishing may remember Ted with a donation to Wilmot Cancer Center, University of Rochester, 601 Elmwood Avenue, Rochester, NY 14642-0002.

Robin and Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I know how difficult it is to lose a parent.

Robin, you and I were in school together and I had your dad for social studies (I believe).

Uncle Ted,
From the first day I walked into your FAMILY you treated me like I was always one of your own.And for the last 25 years I have felt like a member of the Bowen Family ! We have golfed together and the times you took me out to the C.C.C. and we just were out on the course with each or when Eric came were great times just enjoying the day and our conversation.Nikki too remebers fondly the time she came with Eileen,You and me.I always enjoyed chatting with you at family functions and I was extremely glad that we talked for a bit at the wedding in May. I will miss you and will always think of you when golfing and wearing my new C.C.C. Hat ! Love a

This was posted on Facebook on a page about Mt. Morris. Mr. Bowen was everyone's favorite. I was lucky enough to babysit for Robin, who still is a wonderful memory for me. I read your books of poetry and appreciated Eileen (Mrs. Bowen) for her kindess to a crazy freshman girl. I will always love him and remember him for his gifts to my life. You are all in my heart. Sincerely, Lou (Ann) Palermo
