Big Flats - Dr. Thomas A. Abbott Age 62 of Big Flats, NY passed away on Wednesday August 8, 2018. He was born on August 31, 1955 in Elmira, NY the son of Albert C. and Mary Jane Powell Abbott. Tom was a graduate of Horseheads High School Class of 1973, he received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Colorado followed by his Doctorate of Optometry from the New England College of Optometry. "Doc" Abbott was a compassionate and inviting professional to all of his patients and his colleagues. He'd smile describing his practice as "Have Scope - Will Travel." Tom loved his family and cherished every moment he spent with them. He was full of life and lived each day to the fullest. Tom's generosity and sincere love was unmatched. He had so many friendships that he held close to his heart and he will be dearly missed. He was pre-deceased by his father Albert C. Abbott on July 5, 1993 and by his mother Mary Jane Powell Abbott on March 20, 2007. Tom is survived by his loving sons and daughter-in-law: Nicholas and Courtney Abbott of Tallahasee, FL, and Eric Abbott of Durham, N.C.; his grandson Thomas Cole Abbott, and another expected grandchild on the way; sister and brother-in-law: Patricia and Don Diesel of Elmira, NY; brothers and sisters-in-law: Michael and Patricia Mousaw Abbott of Parksville, NY; Joseph and Brandi Abbott of Raleigh, N.C; former wife and mother of their children Peggy Abbott (Rich) Frisk of Delray Beach, FL; several nieces, nephews (whose love for UT is still felt), cousins and a host of caring friends. A celebratory toast is planned in Tom's honor on Wednesday night at Rosar's Bar and Grill between the hours of 6-7PM. Arrangements are entrusted to the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS, NY. Words of Condolence and memories may be shared at www.lynchsfuneralhome.com

I am so sorry to hear about Tommy passing away, it is quite a shock to me....my prayers and thoughts are with you all.

and I will never forget that smile Tommy had, especially when I had not seen him for awhile, and he still had that smile on his face whenever I ran into him. it was always a warm welcoming smile to his friends, family, and cousins...It is a smile that last forever....

so Tommy, you will be greatly missed but your smile will remain with me forever...

To Joe and the entire Abbott family I am very shocked and saddened of the Loss of Tom we just spoke recently about going to see the Boston Red Sox play and maybe even the playoffs and now in a flash he's gone I've known Tom for 25 plus years I know at first we didn't see eye-to-eye but I am so glad that we mended the fences he was a great eye doctor would do anything for you until we meet again rest in peace my friend heaven must have needed and eye dr. To Joe and the entire Abbott family very very saddened to hear of the passing of Tom we are just spoke a few months ago about going to see the Boston Red Sox in the playoffs this year I've known him for 20 plus years I guess Heaven needed an eye doctor and and they chose Tom if our Red Sox team makes it to the World Series I'll try and get there for us but until we meet again rest in peace my friend I know at first we didn't see eye-to-eye but life is too short and I'm glad we mended the fences you were and still will be a great person in my eyes
