Vara P. Smith

Vara P. Age 87, formerly of Elmira, died in Pittsburgh, PA, on Wednesday, April 7, 2004. She was born in Penn Yan, NY, on November 24, 1916, daughter of the late Warren S. and Alta M. Bacon Peck. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Norman Hunter Smith. Survived by daughters, Wende Smith Woodworth of Pittsburgh, PA, and Nancy Smith Lickson of Houston, TX; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was a graduate of Starkey Seminary, former Deacon at First Presbyterian Church, member and Corresponding Secretary of the Junior League of Elmira, Board Member of Southern Tier Association for the Blind, Member of the Women's Auxiliary of Arnot Ogden Memorial Hospital, and she did extensive volunteer work for Elmira organizations, including American Red Cross, Community Chest, YWCA, and Neighborhood House. Services are private.
