Dorsey L. Blades

1943 - 2025

Dorsey L. Blades, 81, of Preston passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at UMSMC at Easton. He was born in Easton on October 14, 1943 to the late Orville Blades and Louise Christopher Blades.

Mr. Blades attended schools in Caroline County. On July 28, 1963, he married the former Miriam Prchal who passed away on August 25, 2025. It was there in Preston that they made their home and raised their family. Dorsey and his wife owned and operated Blades IGA in Preston and he later was an assistant manager for Food Lion in Federalsburg where he retired. Mr. Blades was a life member of Preston Volunteer Fire Company where he served as chief from 1980-1983 and President from 1984-1990. He was also a past president of Tri City Little League.

He is survived by a daughter Annette Hinnershitz (Bruce); sons Kevin Blades (Christine) and Gary Blades (Chasity); grandchildren Kristen Stiles, Meredith Griffith, Josh Blades, Brooke Blades, Dalton Blades and Kara Semans; great-grandchildren Rory, Adley, Hayden, Jaxson and Brody; a brother Robert Blades (Emily); two sister-in-laws Norma Jo Dukes and Dena Collins; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Blades is preceded in death by a brother Larry Blades.

Pallbearers will be members of the Preston Fire Company.

A Fireman's Funeral will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025 at Preston Volunteer Fire Hall, 3680 Choptank Road, Preston, MD 21655 at 11 AM with Chaplain David Casey-Motley officiating. Interment will follow at Junior Order Cemetery in Preston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Preston Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 44, Preston, MD 21655. Arrangements are in the care of Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
