Edwin Barbehenn Obituary

OXFORD - Edwin W. Barbehenn Jr., 91, passed away on Oct. 22, 2017, at his home in Oxford.
Ed was born in Jersey City, N.J., on Oct. 31, 1925, the son of the late Edwin and Rose Dean Barbehenn.
Upon graduating high school in Maplewood, N.J., he entered the United States Navy in early 1944. Following World War II, he attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and graduated with a degree in civil engineering. Ed then began his career as an engineer with Public Service Electric and Gas Company of New Jersey. He later earned his professional engineering license. He retired in 1987 after many years in the PSEG gas department.
Ed married the love of his life, Sheila Maginess, in Harrison, N.Y., in 1950, and in 1960, they settled in Bridgewater, N.J. They raised three children, Craig, Brent and Jill of whom they were very proud.
Ed continued his military service in the ready reserve for 20 years. He was proud to serve with the Navy Seabees and retire as a lieutenant commander.
Sports and hobbies were an important part of Ed's life. While in school, he participated in wrestling and track, and he was an avid bowler in later years. His passions were racing sailboats and just being on the water. "Steady Eddie" was a sailor for more than 70 years and enjoyed including his family in this activity.
Mr. Barbehenn was a member of the Tred Avon Yacht Club, Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club, Easton Lions Club, U.S. Sailing Club, American Gas Association and Thistle Class Association.
Upon retirement, Ed and Sheila moved to Oxford, Md. His wife Sheila passed away in 2009 after many wonderful years of marriage.
Survivors include two sons, Craig E. Barbehenn and partner Graciela of Lighthouse Point, Fla., and Brent W. Barbehenn and wife, Dr. Mary Hughes of Moorestown, N.J.; daughter, Jill B. Sobotor and husband Joe of Stamford, Conn., grandchildren, Kyle and Tara Barbehenn; and nephew, ret. Cmdr. (USN) Douglas Hancher.
Services will be private per Ed's request.
Arrangements are being handled by Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home P.A., Easton.
