Elaine Cox Obituary

Elaine Valliant Cox passed away on December 8, 2024, at Talbot Hospice. She was 84 years old.

Elaine was born on June 3, 1940, in Oxford, Maryland, the daughter of Robert T. Valliant and Grace Marie Moore Valliant.

Elaine attended the Oxford School (now the Oxford Community Center) for elementary school, Stuart Hall high school, and Hood College. She worked for the University of Maryland, was a stay-at-home mother, and later worked in retail sales. She was a life member and past president of the Oxford Fire Company Auxiliary and a board member of the Oxford Museum and the Oxford Cemetery.

Some people's lives are defined by their jobs-Elaine's was defined by the people and things she loved. She loved hummingbirds and watching and feeding birds in her yard. She was an avid gardener and tended numerous flower and vegetable gardens. She loved hosting family dinners, especially Christmas and Easter. She was an excellent cook and her chocolate pies were coveted by many. She enjoyed morning coffee, a daily crossword puzzle, and reading. She loved her hometown of Oxford and was an encyclopedia and preserver of town and family history. In her personal collection, she had a bill-of-sale for the now underwater Sharps Island.

She has loved a number of great cats over the years, most recently her beloved Bella; and her daughter Jennifer's Saint Bernards and Newfoundland dogs.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence (Lance) Cox, Jr. They were married for 25 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Valliant Cox (Matt), her brother Robert T. Valliant, Jr., (Robin), on the Valliant side: a niece, Susan Valliant Hutchison (Chad), a nephew, Michael Valliant (Holly), and five great nieces and nephews. On the Cox side: two nieces, Sterling Ward and Pixie Pikus (Eric), a nephew, Donald Frost (Donna) and nine great nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 11:30am at The Church of the Holy Trinity in Oxford. A reception will be held at the Oxford Volunteer Fire House following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Talbot Hospice, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, MD 21601, https://talbothospice.org/.
