John Payne Obituary

John Thomas Payne Jr, a long-time Maryland resident, passed away on September 29, 2025 at his home in Cambridge. Born on October 19, 1939, in Winchester, Virginia, to John Thomas Payne Sr and Hazel Olive Pauline Oates, John led a full life marked by diverse hobbies and professions.

A graduate of Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, John's career spanned multiple fields, including typesetting, golf course maintenance, and truck driving. He found joy in his love for family, country music, fishing, and hunting, cherishing the time spent with his children and grandchildren on numerous outdoor adventures. Throughout his life, John resided in several places, including The Plains, Virginia; Baltimore, Maryland; Colonial Beach, Virginia; Woodbridge, Virginia; and Elkridge, Maryland.

John is survived by his step-daughter, Lesley Williams, with whom he lived for the last 10 years; step-sons Donald Hott and Gerald (Jay) Hott; and daughters Robin Fiegle, Wendy Clark, and Lisa Reichelt. He was predeceased by his wives, Joan Victoria Hott Payne (nee Prock) and Evelyn Bernice Friend Payne (nee Knox).

A memorial service and burial at Glen Haven Memorial in Glen Burnie, Maryland, are planned for a October 15th at 11AM. Rest in peace, John. Your spirit will live on through the memories you created with loved ones.
