Joyce L. Shiflet

1948 - 2021

Joyce Lee Shiflet, 73, died Friday, November 26 at her home in Cambridge after a year-long battle with leukemia. Born May 31, 1948 in Baltimore, she was the only child of the late Shirley Mae Sullivan and Walter Miles Jackson. She is survived by her only son, Michael Gabriel Shiflet, several cousins, extended family, and her former husband, Walter Crumling.

Joyce graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1966 before moving to East New Market in the 70's with her first husband, the late Michael Terrance Shiflet. She remained on the eastern shore, working as an administrative assistant in the fields of education, the arts, and more.

She found real purpose in her life through her faith and is remembered for her kindness and unconditional love for everyone in her path. She cared deeply for the marginalized and less fortunate, volunteering regularly at churches and organizations that focused on women, children, and the homeless. In one final act of giving, she chose to donate her body to science.

As such, there will be a celebration of life service with her church community at Christ Church in Easton on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 10:00AM. A small reception will follow at the parish hall. All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, Joyce has requested donations be made to Harriett's House, P. O. Box 586, Cambridge MD 21613. Harriett's House is a non- profit she cared about deeply that supports trafficked and endangered women and children through restorative care. The family will also be raising money for a well to be built in her name in Africa through a local charity, another project she supported in recent years.
