Lillian Kirby Obituary

Lillian Eubanks Kirby, age 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21, surrounded by her loving family and dear friends at her home in Centreville, Maryland.

Born on June 29, 1943, at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, where her father served as a Marine. Lillian was the cherished daughter of C.P. and Lillian H. Eubanks. She grew up as a traditional military daughter living in Florida, Ohio, California, and Maryland. She met her loving husband, John, in Davidsonville, MD and later married in 1964 in Bowie, MD. After marriage, she resided in Hampton Roads, VA, Annapolis, MD, and then became a proud resident of Centreville, MD and a beloved presence in her community beginning in 1973.

A 1961 graduate of Annapolis High School, Lillian dedicated much of her professional life to public service. She worked from 1978 to 2009 in Social Services across Queen Anne's, Caroline, Talbot, and Kent Counties, serving as a bookkeeper and Child Support Enforcer. Her work also extended to the Department of Agriculture and the Child Abuse Response & Evaluation Center (CARE), reflecting her deep commitment to helping others.

Lillian lived a vibrant and active life filled with friendships, service, and joy. She was a proud member of Ravens Nest 20 and Ravens Roosts 141 and 142, and was an enthusiastic Baltimore Ravens fan. She was deeply involved in the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO), supporting women through education, scholarships, and opportunities to achieve their highest aspirations. Her dedication to her family was evident through her involvement with Band Boosters for Queen Anne's County High School and Sudlersville Middle School, and Wye River Upper School, where she helped organize fundraising events, including Basket Bingo gatherings to support students, as well as women's education.

Lillian's social spirit shined through her many activities. She was a member of pinochle, bridge, and mahjong groups, enjoyed square dancing, and treasured time spent at teas. She co-owned J K Treasures Red Hat Depot, located at the Easton Amish Market, where she sold Longaberger baskets and Red Hat apparel. This was due to being an active member of the Red Hat Society and a Longaberger consultant. An avid traveler, camper, and adventurer, Lillian especially loved her years spent at Trails End Campground near Chincoteague Island. She found joy in visiting breweries and wineries, gardening, watching hummingbirds, working on jigsaw puzzles, going to lunch with her friends, reading, and watching crime shows- especially 'Murder, She Wrote'.

Lillian is survived by her devoted husband, John Kirby of 61 years, brother Jon Eubanks (Janet); daughters Nancy Knotts (Tim) and Leigh Dean (Russell); grandchildren, Joshua Knotts, Emily Holiday (Bryan), Jamie Rash (Cole), Ellie Knotts, Meredith Moore (Conner), Claire Dokken (Evan); great grandchildren, Ashton and Regan Robinson, Kensington and Gavin Holiday, and Layla Rash, along with a wide circle of friends, who lovingly knew her as "Granny." Her warmth, kindness, and welcoming spirit made her a grandmother figure to many beyond her own family.

Lillian will be remembered for her boundless energy, generous heart, and the way she brought people together. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the causes she championed, and the love she shared so freely.

Please join us in a casual celebration of life held on April 26th at the Easton Volunteer Fire Department from 2:00-4:00 located at 219 Leonard Reick Drive, Easton, MD 21601. In her memory please wear purple. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in her memory to PEO (Ann Grace, President, Chapter AL PEO 242 Opera Court Centreville, MD 21617), Compass Hospice (160 Coursevall Dr. Centreville, MD 21617), Easton Fire Department, or any organization supporting women's education or local school programs.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

They say you don´t know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory... and I feel that more than ever right now. Sitting here wishing we could take just one more trip, drink one more glass of wine, get your advice, hear your laugh just one more time. I have too many wonderful memories of you to post, but I hope you know how much you filled my life with love and laughter. You put up a great fight! I will treasure your friendship forever. My heart aches for your family. I will continue to pray for peace and comfort for them during this most difficult time. Don't worry, we'll keep an eye on Papa John (and your girls). Love you forever Mamma Lil, until we see each other again. Love, Tammy
