Ronald Nelson Obituary

Ronald Nelson, 83, of Bonita Beach, FL and formerly of Queen Anne's County, MD, passed away on September 6, 2025. Born May 28, 1942, in Salisbury, MD. A 1960 graduate of Wicomico Senior High School, he earned his degree in Environmental Health from East Tennessee State University in 1966.

Ron served over 30 years in Maryland state and local government, including as Deputy Secretary of the Maryland Department of the Environment and Director of Hazardous and Solid Waste Management. He was a key figure in environmental policy and Chesapeake Bay restoration and was honored as Admiral of the Chesapeake in 1977. After retiring, he worked as Director of Environmental Law for the Maryland Chamber of Commerce and later led his own consulting firm.

In his community, Ron coached youth soccer and softball in Anne Arundel County, MD, and enjoyed golf, and was an avid Ravens fan, and reader of Stephen King novels. He and his wife Hazel were married for 54 years. He is also survived by his daughter Heather Wigglesworth (Ed), son Kyle Nelson, grandchildren Noah, Lauren, Ava, and Emily, and extended family. A gathering will be held October 18, 2025, from 1-4 PM at Cove Creek Clubhouse, Stevensville, MD. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
