Timothy Thurber Obituary

Timothy Thurber, 71, of Northfield, VT, passed away on October 16, 2025. He was born on September 7, 1954, in Barstow, CA to Russel and Dolores Thurber.

Tim was a lifelong educator as a teacher, coach, principal, and professor. He taught English and Latin with enthusiasm, verve, and wit for 19 years at Easton High School. Most notably as a soccer and lacrosse coach, he amassed winning records, numerous conference and region championships, and 3 Maryland state titles for boys' soccer. In his 11 years as principal at EHS, he oversaw a major renovation and was proud of helping EHS attain blue ribbon status. After his career in public education, he helped start the education program at Norwich University. In retirement, when not doting on his 3 grandchildren, he was an avid reader, loved gardening, building model ships, painting watercolors, re-enacting the Revolutionary War, and volunteering at the local library. Through it all, Dr. Thurber never missed an opportunity to reminisce and revel in his past students' and players' successes.

Tim is survived by his loving wife of over 45 years, Elizabeth Thurber and his three children and their spouses - Kurt and Laurie Thurber, Becki and Mike Spiering, and Daniel and Randi Thurber. He will be missed greatly by his three grandchildren: Phineas Thurber, Pepper Spiering, and Fletcher Thurber. He is also survived by his 3 brothers, 2 sisters-in-law, 8 nephews and nieces, their kids, and honestly the list just goes on.
