Wanda Cumberland Obituary

On 7 November 2024, our Lord called forward His beloved daughter Wanda Gay Cumberland. Wanda began her journey to her heavenly home surrounded by her adoring family. Wanda was the devoted wife of Henry (Hank) A. Cumberland III, and loving mother to her children Debbie (Susan), Susan (Dan) Garvey, Dan Cumberland and Bill (Catherine) Cumberland. Wanda is preceded in death by her parents Clayton and Jessie Craig of Orkney Springs, Virginia, and her siblings Betty Coffelt, Mary Frances Canaday, Fern Lamma, and Clifford Craig. She is also survived by her brothers Henry (Iris) and Randy (Bobby) Craig and sister Sandra (Ray) Waybright, 6 grandchildren (Elli, Sean, Alex, Colin, Aidan, Blake), and many nephews and nieces.

Wanda was born and raised in Orkney Springs, in the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia. She attended Triplett High School, Mount Jackson, Virginia, and after graduation, moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked as a clerical secretary and met her future husband Hank on a blind date. This year they celebrated 64 years of a blessed and wonderful marriage. Her family moved to the Miles River Neck of Easton, Maryland, in 1973 and have lived there ever since. Wanda worked at the local Safeway in Easton for 10 years.

Wanda was an accomplished artist and loved painting flower arrangements. She loved reading, bird watching, and collecting hand-carved creations of her favorites from the artisans in the area. In her free time, she volunteered at Easton's Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, local food-banks, and with Talbot Hospice care visits. She also enjoyed attending Craig family reunions in the Shenandoah Valley and hosting the annual Cumberland family crab feast.

Wanda will be dearly missed by her family and friends and will forever remain in our hearts.

Relatives and friends may call on Friday, 22 November, from 5-7pm at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 200 South Harrison Street, Easton, MD, 21601.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Wanda on Saturday, 23 November, 11am at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church, 13209 Church Lane, Cordova, MD, 21625 and burial will take place at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, Saints Peter and Paul Conference, Easton, MD. https://svdpeastonmd.org/donate
