Bobby Hartsell Obituary
November 4, 1939 - June 28, 2024
Bobby Ray Hartsell, born on November 4, 1939, in Kannapolis, NC, passed away peacefully at his Elizabeth City home on June 28, 2024. He was 84 years old.
Bob spent most of his life in northern Virginia, where he dedicated fifty years to education as a teacher and coach in Prince William and Fauquier Counties. His passion for teaching mathematics touched the lives of countless students, most recently at Liberty and Fauquier High Schools. Outside of the classroom, Bob's voice could be heard during the 1980's and 90's on WQRA radio as the play-by-play announcer for Fauquier sports, bringing excitement and enthusiasm to every game he covered. He was a Master level bridge player and directed American Contract Bridge League clubs in Warrenton and Culpeper. A longtime member of Grace Episcopal Church in Casanova, Virginia, he served as the senior warden and later as a member of the Standing Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia.
Bobby is survived by his daughters, Dr. Theresa Hartsell of Elizabeth City, NC, and Barb Fraley (Chris) of Hawaii; son, Will Hartsell (Joy) of West Virginia; grandchildren, Conner Hartsell, Austin Dysinger, Amber Hanshew (Zak); great-grandchildren, August, Xavier, Aubrey, and Ella; brothers, Richard Hartsell and Gene Hartsell (Linda); and, former spouse, MaryLu Hartsell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Holland Hartsell; parents, Howard Hartsell and Annie Lowder Hartsell; and his sister, Deamie Sutherland.
Bobby will be remembered for his love of education, his dedication to his community, his infectious sense of humor, and his generous spirit. He will be deeply missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service with interment will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 5096 Grace Church Lane, Midland, VA 22728 on Saturday July 20, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob's memory to Grace Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 18 Casanova, VA 20139.

Bobby is at rest now.I am thankful for having him for my brother for 81 years.Bobby was my big brother.We lost our sister,Deamie in 2003.I will miss him very much.I remember we use to play football in the back yard.We had good hard working parents who taught us to be true and honest hard working adults.I think Bobby reached a lot lives by teaching school for so long.They should feel grateful for having him in there lives.Go rest high on that mountain.I will see you again someday.

Bob was a class act in the Fauquier County community. He never said no when asked to help with something at Grace Church, Casanova. His students at the high school loved him as did the community. What a true pillar he was for Grace Church, Casanova! I know that you will miss him Theresa, William, and Barbara. We sure did when he was away from Grace for a while, but it was lovely to see him come back in recent years. I´m glad he was with you in his final years. I love your family and the fond memories and wonderful contribution they made to Grace Church, especially your dad when things were not going so well. He kept us all going, and I know God was using him greatly! Surely God has gained an angel!
