Betty Parmenter November 21, 2021 Betty Parmenter, 98, of rural Gering, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021, peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Her funeral service will be held at 9:30am on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Grace Chapel in Scottsbluff with Pastor Owen Anderson officiating. Services will be livestreamed on Bridgman Funeral Home Facebook page. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. Visitation will be on Friday, November 26, 2021, at Bridgman Funeral Home in Scottsbluff from 5-7pm. The family respectfully requests that memorials in Betty's honor be made in care of the Melbeta/Minatare Fire Department and others to be determined. Online condolences may be made by viewing Betty's memorial page at www.bridgmanfuneralhome.com. Johanna Elizabeth (Betty) Schafer, born May 28, 1923, Scottsbluff, NE. She was the second of four children born to Charles Francis Schafer and Rosetta Davis Schafer. Betty graduated from Scottsbluff High School, then attended Scottsbluff Junior College, obtaining her teaching degree. She taught in the McGrew and Mitchell Schools. She also worked in the office of the Morrison Livestock and Platte Valley Livestock Companies for many years. Betty married Robert (Bob) Earl Parmenter on August 21, 1947, in Gering, NE. They were married for 60 years and were blessed with 11 children. She was a member of the Melbeta Methodist Church and was involved in Women's Society and Mary Martha's. She loved to learn and was often found reading an encyclopedia to research various topics to present at the meetings. One of her favorite topics was the history of Crayola's. She shared her presentation with numerous groups throughout the valley. Betty was a blessing to many; she loved her family and dedicated her life to the care of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many others. She was involved in their church, school and sports activities, 4-H projects, and Scouts. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; parents: Charles and Rosetta Schafer; siblings: Chuck (Mary) Schafer, Dot (Charles) Rossiter, and Kay (Bill) McCarty; son-in-law Bob McCool; in-laws: John and Etta Parmenter; Dale Lackey; Gladys (Gerry) Doremus; Stuart Fitts; Dot Parmenter; Dorothy (Jim) Ault; Janice Becker; Don Broderick; Mabel Parmenter and Doris Parmenter. She is survived by her children Kathryn McCool, Gering; Shirley (Ralph) Baker, Blackfoot, ID; Virginia Parmenter, Gering; Joan (Wade) Hall, Meridian, ID; Nancy Aguirre, Oklahoma City, OK; Peggy (Tom) Welsch, Morrill; R.J. (Sandy) Parmenter, Scottsbluff; Roger Parmenter, Gering; Mary Parmenter, Scottsbluff; Michele (Steve) Flott, Omaha; and Paul (Lana) Parmenter, Scottsbluff. Betty is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren. In-laws Marie Lackey; Mildred Fitts; Don Parmenter; Doyle (Joan) Parmenter, Dick Becker and Barbara Broderick. There are also numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the wonderful Hospice staff for their excellent care and compassion.
