Judith Burton Obituary
HYANNIS - Judith Jane Burton went to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 15, 2010, after a 10-month battle with cancer.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 19, at the Hyannis High School with minister Roy Monahan. Honorary pallbearers are all of Judy's friends.
Private family interment will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Hyannis Cemetery.
Judy wished that memorials go to the Church of the Sandhills or the Hyannis Cemetery.
Mullen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Judy was born Sept. 18, 1941, in Alliance, the fourth daughter of Cliff and Jewell Ferguson. Judy lived on her parent's ranch north of Ashby, attending country school until second grade. Her parents then took the kids to Ashby to school until 1955 when the school was closed. After this they moved to Hyannis. Judy graduated from Hyannis High School in 1959.
She married her high school sweetheart, Lyle Burton, on May 19, 1959. They lived in California for a brief time and then moved to Nebraska.
Judy graduated from Alliance Beauty School in 1967 and worked in Alliance as a beautician. In 1970, the family moved to Hyannis, where she operated Judy's Kut and Kurl for 23 years. The couple purchased the Hyannis Ranch Supply in 1974 and operated it until 2004.
Judy enjoyed vacations in the camper touring new areas. Favorite destinations were in the states of Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Arizona and Washington.
Judy was a charter member of the Lion's club where she received the Melvin Jones Fellow award in 2010. In 2005, she was the Lion of the year at the local level and awarded the Master Builder award at the state level. Judy was also a charter member of the Hyannis Eagles, Alumni Association and the Windmill Country Committee. Judy and Lyle were Grand Marshals of the Grant County Fair Parade in 2009. She won many awards at the Grant County Fair in quilting, canning, cooking and gardening. Judy attended the Church of the Sandhills. She was heavily involved in Vacation Bible School and other church projects.
Survivors include her husband Lyle; son, Kevin (Karla); grandchildren, David (Katy) and Jessica; extended daughter, Kristi Kae Stumpff (Robbie) and Jacobi and Jace; brother-in-law, Fred Michal; siblings, Carol Kerrigan (Glenn), Charlain White (Ronald), Melanie Sexson (Dave), Joe Ferguson (Barbara), Lola Webster (Scott), Lora Jenkins (George), Ted Ferguson (Tricia), Lee Ferguson (Sheryl), Jan Burgess and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was an infant son; parents; and sisters, Lily Laverne Ferguson and Mabel Ella Michal.
