Patsy Berzina Obituary

Patsy "Pat" Irene Berzina, 81, of Gering, passed away Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at Regional West Medical Center surrounded by her family.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Jeffery W. Grams officiating. Interment will follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Minatare.
Visitation will be Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials have been established to the St. John's Lutheran Church. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.dugankramer.com.
Pat was born Feb. 5, 1929, in Minatare the daughter of James and Hilda (Rehder) Garman. She grew up in Minatare, where she met and then married Albert "Bud" Berzina in 1946. They raised one son, Jim. They enjoyed 64 years of a loving, wonderful life together. They lived in western Nebraska area until they settled in Scottsbluff-Gering in 1955.
Pat worked many years in the business community as a bookkeeper and accountant. In 1965, she became manager of the Minatare Housing Authority. In 1970, she was appointed executive director of the Scotts Bluff County Housing Authority, which included low cost housing in Scottsbluff, Terrytown, Minatare and Morrill. She also initiated the building and completion of the Carpenter Center Facility, which was dedicated to providing education and sports and recreational opportunities for the youth. After 25 years in this position, she retired in 1995.
Upon retirement, she and Bud moved to an acreage in the Minatare area. It was the perfect place for family and friends to gather for celebrations, vacations, and holidays; as well as, a quick stop for coffee, cards or great conversations.
Survivors include her beloved husband Bud; son, James (Diann) of Omaha; grandsons, Kyle (Heather) Berzina of Denver and Tyler (Kristina) Berzina of Omaha; great-granddaughters, Hannah, Grace and Katie Berzina of Denver; step granddaughter, Cara (Chris) David and their children Ryan and Ben; step grandson, Matt (Jen) Timmerman and family all of Omaha; sisters, Mary Jo (Barry) Bassett of Minatare and Linda (Bud) Johnson of Scottsbluff; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Jean Grove and Louise Jenks.

Pat was a delightful person, one I was proud to call "friend". Her wisdom and vision were legendary, and her legacy will never end. Sympathy to all her loved ones.
