Robert Coover Obituary

Robert L. Coover December 20, 1930-November 12, 2022 Robert L. Coover, 91, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, died Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff surrounded by family. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 19, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Jeff Fiet officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. The United States Air Force and Gering American Legion Post 36 Funeral Honor Guard will provide military funeral honors. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or to Homes for Our Troops. The funeral service will be livestreamed and recorded to Robert's obituary page viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com. Robert was born December 20, 1930, in Torrington, Wyoming to Paul and Bertha (Krantz) Coover. He graduated from Broken Bow High School and immediately entered the workforce doing construction until 1951. He then enlisted with the United States Air Force. Robert served for four years, three of which were spent with a Radar unit in Germany. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force and returned to construction work for some time. He later enrolled at Scottsbluff Junior College graduating in 1958. He worked as a machinist at Sidles Chambers in Scottsbluff until 1964. Robert married Minetta Griess on June 6, 1959, and to this union three sons were born: Mark, Jon, and Brian. The family made their home in Scottsbluff where Robert eventually began a 36-year career with the United States Post Office as a mail carrier. He was a loving and involved father, supporting his sons in Boy Scouts as well as multiple school sports and activities. Lifelong memories were made together with his boys while he attended each of their various events throughout the years. Robert enjoyed restoring old cars, hunting, and swimming at the YMCA. He remained very active into his retirement years. Robert always looked forward to time spent with his family whether it be visits with his sons and their families, playing cards with his siblings, or family reunions. He will be dearly missed. Survivors include his wife, Minetta Coover of Scottsbluff; sons, Mark (Sharron) Coover of Bennett, Colorado; Brian (Joy) Coover of Golden, Colorado; and Jon (Chris) Coover of Larkspur, Colorado; grandchildren, Matthew, Kelly, Ariana, Isaac, Mikenna, Brynna, and Josh; great-grandchild, Jonah; brothers, Roger (Ayfer) Coover of Turkey and Michael (Marie) Coover of Riverside, California; sisters, Bonnie Wickard and Jane Miller both of Scottsbluff; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Bertha Coover; in-laws, Richard and Henrietta Griess; and siblings, Edward "Jake" Coover and Paula Korte.

Dear Minetta, Mark, Jon, and Brian, just found out about your husband/father. So sorry to hear about Bob's death. Hadn't seen him I think since we were in college together but have fond memories of Bob. Praying for you all and hope you're doing well.
